Open Books Ltd.

Welcome to Open Books!

Open Books is a nonprofit social venture that operates an extraordinary bookstore, provides community programs, and mobilizes passionate volunteers to promote literacy in Chicago and beyond. Dedicated to enriching lives through reading, writing, and the SOCIAL power of used books, the organization now works with more than 3,000 students each year through its literacy programs, which range from 1:1 weekly reading sessions with elementary school students through creative nonfiction workshops for 4th-12th graders and mentoring for high school juniors. Support for Open Books' programs comes in part from its award-winning store, which holds more than 50,000 donated books and was hailed by the press as "the most beautiful bookstore in Chicago," and "a rainbow-hued literary Wonka Wonderworld." For more information, including volunteer opportunities and how to donate books to the cause, visit us at http://www.open-books.org.
